Currently under development with a 2-3 man team, but we need help! We have completed the first 2 maps and are planning to release a demo soon, but we can give you screenshots of the early versions of our maps. Game Summary: Rumble Fumble is a fast-paced action sports game that is based on American Football. First played by kids in Philadelphia and named "Muckle," this football variation is now being made into a video game by the Rumble Fumble Team.
Rumble Fumble starts out on one of the 10 planned maps with 11 people on either side of the field (Making up the two teams--a grand total of 22 players). A football is spawned in the middle of the field and is programmed to take a random large bounce in any direction at the start of the round. This random bounce stops the boring "run to the middle" theme that has been so evident and boring in nearly every other sports game on Steam.
Whenever a player picks up the ball, he/she has many different possible actions to take in order to advance the ball into the opposing endzone. The forward pass is a popular move, as it is a deep-strike move that can result in long-range touchdowns quickly. Also possible is the lateral, or toss, pass. This move is effective because it is fast and is a good way to avoid being tackled. When a defender is about to take you down, there's not always time to wind up for a long throw downfield.
When the ball carrier is tackled by an opposing player, two things happen: First, the ball is fumbled in a random direction, much like at the beginning of the round. Second, the former ball carrier is ragdolled and ALSO takes a large bounce in a random direction. This has become a favorite sight of the Development team, as a small map makes for flying bodies everywhere. Anyway, after two or three seconds, the ragdolled player respawns at the area at which he started the match. The ball that the player dropped is now available to be picked up by any player in the game, even the player that just respawned!
When a player carries the ball into the opposing endzone, he or she scores a touchdown. This scores major points, but we'll talk about that later. Anyway, ifthe ball is ever fumbled and rolls into the endone, the round resets. This is referred to as a "touchback". The touchback adds an element of skill to passing. A player that throws a deep pass must make sure that the pass is on target. If it is not, the ball will land in the endzone and result in a touchback, which is not advantageous for any team. Incomplete passes (when the ball is not caught before it hits the ground) are considered fumbles as long as the ball does not land or roll into the endzone.
Points are scored when a player: scores a touchdown, passes the ball, picks up the ball, makes a tackle, intercepts a pass, etc. There are many ways to score, and we intend to balance the scoring system so that defensive players can score major points by sitting back and making big tackles and hits. This way, we don't just have 22 people chasing the ball around on offense like monkeys.
Points are deducted only for things that hurt the entire team: touchbacks, throwing interceptions, giving up a fumble, etc. Points would not be deducted for simple things such as being hit or incomplete passes that do not land in the endzone.
Points will generally be based off of a system that makes a touchdown worth 100 points. This may be changed, and we're sure that the points system will have to be tweaked and re-tweaked in order to achieve perfect balance. However, teamwork is the theme in this game. We would like to ensure that not everyone just wants to score touchdowns, but instead can sit back on defense and score points or be a midfield tossing expert to advance the ball to forward players! Of course, some will still play offense as you really can't win a game without scoring touchdowns. Our team has not yet decided on whether we want to include every point gained by every player in the round score, or just touchdown points. Another possible tweak.
An ultimate objective would be to implement a *gasp* level-up system much like Call of Duty 4! No promises, it's something to look forward to. Anyone out there up to this coding nightma... challenge? Let me know! The level up system would make your player faster, a bigger hitter, and actually physically bigger in appearance.
