Map Installation Instructions We tell you where to put the files you have downloaded from FPSBanana! |
On this page we will give you instructions on installing the maps you downloaded from FPSBanana. The first thing that everybody who is seeking help should do is install the latest version of WinRAR (forget about Winzip, is is a piece of junk) from this page. Older versions of Winzip/WinRAR will not let you open some archives or you will not let you see the contents of it.
Where to extract which file?
Now to the files that you will typically find in a map rar/zip archive and where they should be extracted to...
- Map File
Example: de_laguna.bsp (The main file which contains the map structure)
Destination: X:\Steam\SteamApps\you@mail.com\counter-strike\cstrike\maps
- Res File
Example: de_laguna.res (Tells a server what files a client has to download for a map to work)
Destination: X:\Steam\SteamApps\you@mail.com\counter-strike\cstrike\maps
- Map Description Textfile
Example: de_laguna.txt (Contains the maps objective and information about the creator)
Destination: X:\Steam\SteamApps\you@mail.com\counter-strike\cstrike\maps
- Texture File(s)
Example: lagunadn.tga (Compressed images of the skymap)
Destination: X:\Steam\SteamApps\you@mail.com\counter-strike\cstrike\gfx\env
- Wad File(s)
Example: de_laguna.wad (Contains the map's textures)
Destination: X:\Steam\SteamApps\you@mail.com\counter-strike\cstrike
- Sound File(s)
Example: birds.wav (Sound files for the map)
Destination: X:\Steam\SteamApps\you@mail.com\counter-strike\cstrike\sound\ambience
- Model File(s)
Example: heli.mdl (Model files used in the map)
Destination: X:\Steam\SteamApps\you@mail.com\counter-strike\cstrike\models Those are the usual files an archive contains. Sometimes it may happen that for example a sound file doesn't go into "...\sound\ambience" but in "...\sound\ambience\mapname", in that case the author should have included a readme file so look for that first and if there is none extract the file to the locations explained above.
Note: You need to change "X:\Steam\..." to the path you installed your STEAM to, for exampe "C:\Program Files\Steam\...". Also, "you@mail.com" needs to be replaced with the email address you are using for STEAM. |
