It is a texture pack, and it is on .vtf format, which you can edit with Paint.NET or Photoshop, and convert them for usage on the Goldsource engine games (Half-Life, Counter Strike, Day of Defeat), with their correspondent plugins, other than that, you shouldn't have any problems with them.

Perhaps, I can't really say. I would almost run a check on the harddrive sectors themselves to make sure its not been corrupted in some way where .vmf files are being scrambled to create invalid solids.

Those are the only real ways to create an invalid solid aside from corrupted vmf/harddrives of course but you would notice other effects probaly if that was the case.

Try a blank .vmf and see if it will give you the same problem with a simple block brush.

They are invalid solids created from vertex manipulation and in some cases carving etc.

Just make sure to use the clipping tool to create shapes that can exist and are not warped.

Nice hells angel skin it would be nice if you added a 1%er patch to make him look even more bad ass. also do you plan on making an Outlaw skin too? Outlaws are the big biker gang here so it would be nice from my standpoint.
